Last weekend I was hired to photograph the Walking in Love Couple’s Night event. It was a very upscale affair produced by the founders of I Got Flo, LLC. It was held at Taravella Manor. (Need I say more?)
(Husband and wife) Joseph and Alaina Fontenot of I Got Flo, LLC welcome guests to the 2016 annual "Walking in Love" Couples Event
The setting was very intimate and romantic. The lights were dim. There were red rose petals and blinged out vases on each table. On each wall of the room, were intricately placed red colored floor lights that shot up to the ceiling giving the atmosphere an end all feeling of love.
As each guest started to arrive, I remember feeling a sense of excitement! Whenever black love is celebrated and showcased on an essential platform as this was, the feeling is always liberating for me. It gives me hope, encouragement, and something to aspire to. It’s so moving to be able to witness this type of unity in a world that glorifies promiscuity, anti-marriage, and the degradation of the black household. Talk about #LifeGoals!
The evening was hosted by The Oracle, who kept the crowd laughing by sharing stories about his life as a husband and a father. The event also featured poetry and gospel musical performances.
Here is a photo of The Oracle joking with the crowd
Pastor Tracy Casby Sr.
One of my favorite moments from the evening was hearing pastor Tracy Casby Sr speak. He’s a pastor from Full Life Faith Ministries. His presentation was very witty and it wasn’t too “churchy” (if that’s a word) It was valid and straight to the point in regards to God, love and marriage. Here is what I took away from everything he said.
1) DON’T WAIT UNTIL YOU HAVE MONEY TO ENJOY LIFE
“If you have to go out and get a cupcake with a candle in it to celebrate your love, do it” ~ Pastor Tracy C.
He mentioned that at one point in his marriage, money was tight. Despite his financial situation, he went out and bought his wife a very expensive gift and they traveled to some place they could not afford. Though he knew all of this, his only objective was for him and his wife to feel happy in that moment. The excitement on his wife’s face and the love she expressed for him during that time spoke so deeply to his spirit, which ultimately fueled the self-confidence and motivation he needed to blaze a path that would eventually lead to their financial freedom. (Which leads to number 2)
2) LOVE NEEDS TO BE AFFIRMED
“Tell your wife how much you love her” ~ Pastor Tracy C.
He mainly spoke to the fellows on this one. He said it’s important to reassure your woman as often as possible how important she is in your life. The whole room lit up. All the ladies stood and clapped when he uttered those words. Of course he didn’t fail to mention, it works both ways. So ladies, be sure to give your man praise whenever he meets or exceeds your expectations. It encourages growth and leads to less disappointments.
3) NEVER GO TO GOD WITHOUT YOUR SPOUSE
“I decided I was going to go to God and tell him how wrong my wife was” ~Pastor Tracy C.
In his quest to talk to God about his wife one day, God said to him, “Never come to me without your wife.” He told the men to never leave their wives uncovered! This was the second hallelujah moment that made the women shout. LOL. A husband should never leave their wives vulnerable to the attacks of the enemy. The last thing you want is to make her susceptible to emotional, physical, and spiritual attacks. Cover her in prayer and always lead your household with a spiritual backbone.
At one point, he asked the audience to raise their hands if there was anyone who was not married. NO ONE raised their hands. Again, I was in awe of this strong presence of righteous men and women sitting before me. Marriage is being made cool again, and I love it!
The definite highlight of the evening was the smooth sounds from T-Ray the Violinist! Imagine sitting at a dining table with the love of your life, fine cuisine, candles burning, red lights all over the place, and a live musical accompaniment of Keith Sweat’s “Make it Last Forever” starts blasting through the speakers! If any couple showed up mad, I bet they left in love all over again that night! Then, of course he brought it on home performing the popular New Orleans bounce hit, “Halfway” Having date night at events like this are a sure way to affirm your love to your partner. You don’t always need a lot of money to enjoy life together.
T-Ray the Violinist giving everybody life!
If you missed this year’s Walking In Love couple’s event, I’m sure it will be bigger and better next year. Of course I’ve got you covered with exclusive photos to showcase how the night went.
